Case Study / Section 03: Nursery Works & Million Dollar Baby
Nursery Works Convertible Crib & Bassinet
Engineering a sculptural, 50-slat convertible crib for Nursery Works—balancing fluid, organic geometry with rigorous CPSC safety standards through in-house prototyping and limited-edition production runs.
01 / The Challenge
We partnered with Nursery Works, the design-forward division of Million Dollar Baby, early in the development of a landmark, highly sculptural baby crib.
The core challenge was translating an ambitious early form-study mock-up into a meticulously engineered product that met strict CPSC safety standards—without diluting its fluid, continuous silhouette or one-of-a-kind structural details. The design required 50 uniquely shaped crib slats and a seamless transition between a full-size crib and a compact bassinet configuration.
02 / Engineering & Execution
Dual-Configuration Hardware System
Engineered a single, unified hardware architecture allowing organic geometry to transition smoothly between full crib and compact bassinet scales while passing all CPSC safety tests in both modes.
50-Slat Structural Joinery
Evaluated and engineered complex joinery details for all 50 unique slat profiles to ensure structural rigidity, anti-entrapment compliance, and fluid visual flow.
Red-Leaf Maple & In-House Production
Selected high-stability red-leaf maple for slender, sculpted profiles and took a studio-built approach—crafting initial prototypes and limited runs in-house by hand.
03 / Impact & Results
- Flagship Brand Driver: Brought to market as the single most visible, highly marketed hero crib in the Nursery Works catalog.
- Viral & Celebrity Validation: Earned widespread visibility and organic social media features from multiple A-list celebrity clients.
- Flawless Safety Compliance: Achieved 100% CPSC safety compliance across both crib and bassinet modes using shared hardware and bench-made precision.
